I hope that my readers will forgive me not posting my usual Saturday [FORUM] post, or for commenting or even witnessing the two previous posts. That's because I've spent the day on a very nice day trip with Jerry, travelling northeast from Toronto first to the university city of Peterborough and the surrounding Kawarthas cottage district, then when to the charming little community of Lindsay, then finally home. Yes, photos with be forthcoming: did you really think that there was any possibility that they wouldn't?

The general area of the Kawarthas isn't the only area for Torontonians to retreat to, and is certainly not the most famous. There's the Niagara Peninsula a bit over an hour to Toronto's south, or the famous Muskoka cottage country two hours to Toronto's north. Other Torontonians and experienced people can doubtless add other ideas.

So, this early, early Sunday morning I ask you: where do you go for brief trips, daytrips or otherwise, out of your community of residence?

Toronto's Mount Pleasant Cemetery, located off Yonge Street just a few minutes' walk south of the Davisville subway station. It was originally opened in 1876 as a non-denominational burying ground: at the time, only Anglican and Roman Catholic cemeteries were permitted within what were then the frontiers of the City of Toronto. Now home to some 168 thousand burial sites, Mount Pleasant has become a tourist attraction of some note: Mike Filey's Mount Pleasant Cemetery is an excellent guide.

Back in July, I'd the good fortune to tour the cemetery with [livejournal.com profile] lux_apollo and [livejournal.com profile] talktooloose. After too long, finally here's some of the trip's products.

More will come.
