Judging by the predictions and speculations of thinkers on space, the asteroid 1 Ceres may have an interesting future ahead of it. Back in September, [livejournal.com profile] atomic_orrery argued that Ceres' low gravity and relatively central location in the Solar System made it the perfect location for a space elevator. Today, taking note of the abundant volatiles and organic compounds on Ceres' surface, [livejournal.com profile] james_nicoll wonders whether or not it might be possible to terraform Ceres, perhaps bagging the planetoid in a transparent envelope to retain heat and atmosphere.
