People interested in the topics raised on Saturday's post on the tensions within la Francophonie between the French and everyone else would also be interested in Kamal Salhi's 2002 article in Current Issues in Language Planning 3.3, "Critical Imperatives of the French Language in the Francophone World: Colonial Legacy -- Postcolonial Policy". Salhi covers much the same ground but in much greater detail, and with academic rigour to boot.
