[URBAN NOTE] "A Home Depot on Queen West?"

Rick Moldovanyi at blogTO has a post up ("A Home Depot on Queen West?") discussing the possibility that North American home construction and renovation firm Home Depot will build a big box store in the middle of the self-consciously hip and indie-populated neighbourhood of Queen Street West, and in so doing may strip the neighbourhood of its charm. Many of that post's commenters argue that Queen Street West has already sold its soul to commerce, and that the neighbourhood's indie spirit is leaving. I'd bet that it will be heading just a bit west into Parkdale, a neighbourhood that is now as poor but promising as Queen Street West a couple of decades ago, although neighbourhoods immediately to the south and north of Queen Street might also benefit.
