Book City is a notable independent book store chain in Toronto that, until this weekend, had six locations across Toronto including one at 663 Yonge Street.

Saturday night, I was walking with Jerry along that stretch when we noticed that Book City was quite busy. A handwritten sign on the door, thrown ajar, said that the store was closed due to computer problems. They must have been severe computer problems, certainly, if teams of workers had to remove everything in the store down to and including the shelves and load them onto two waiting trucks at a hurried pace.

Tonight, I walked past 663 Yonge Street. Someone had started to scratch out the Book City logo, while inside the darkened store the only light was the faint red light of the emergency exit sign. The bailiff's notice is surely going to be posted on the abandoned store's door by the 29th.
