City News has the story, which happened near the intersection of Oakwood and Vaughan, not more than a half-hour’s walk from me. At least it has a happy ending.

A heart-wrenching discovery was made on the city's west side Wednesday, when a man stumbled upon 10 newborn kittens left to die in a plastic bag.

Jonathan Breedon was walking to the bus stop on Vaughan Road near Oakwood Wednesday afternoon, when he heard the tiny animals making noise.

"As soon as I stepped closer ... that's when a baby cat stepped out of the bag that was already fallen over, and when I looked inside there was a huge pile of baby cats."

Breedon brought the little guys down to the Toronto Humane Society. The kittens are now safe and sound, being fed by a surrogate mother.
