Deadlines

Things on going well on the graduate-school application front, with the payment methods taken care of, my early arrival in Kingston accomodated, and my application for that scholarship off.

Work on Freihafen and Heidelsheimat continues apace. God, I'm such a nerd.

They scratched and clawed like men trying to cling to the side of a marble skyscraper with their fingernails.

But one by one, they fell; some landing with a thud on the pavement below, others dropping clear into oblivion.

At the end, only rank outsider Shaun Micheel -- leader of the PGA Championship by two strokes at the halfway pole -- Canada's Mike Weir and 1998 Canadian Open winner Billy Andrade had managed to hang on to scores better than par, though Weir, the 33-year-old Masters champion from Bright's Grove, Ont., had lost his steely grip on a second major championship of golf's 2003 season and the Player of the Year honour that would surely go with it.
