Two things occurred yesterday which reminded me of the September visit paid by [livejournal.com profile] roosterbear and [livejournal.com profile] quillon.

1. The Clint Roenisch Gallery, located on 944 Queen Street West at the northwestern corner of Queen and Shaw, no longer has the slogan "Everything Is Perfect" painted on the inside of its front window.

2. I went to Fresh for supper, a burger (the burger itself was made out of almond and grain) with a samosa and some tea. I enjoyed the burger, but I felt as if I was cheating myself by eating a simulacrum of non-vegetarian food. Any recommendations as to what I should have eaten instead? ([livejournal.com profile] mickeytor, this is for you.)

Today's meeting of the Counterfactual Threats Analysis Group went quite well, with myself, [livejournal.com profile] pauldrye, [livejournal.com profile] schizmatic, and [livejournal.com profile] schizmatic's friend A. in attendance. A variety of topics were discussed, including [livejournal.com profile] pauldrye's excellent map of Eta Cassiopeiae A.IV.7. Subsequently, an excellent dinner as usual at the home of [livejournal.com profile] bitterlawngnome, [livejournal.com profile] djjo, and [livejournal.com profile] danthered.

Now, I'm continuing to try NaNoWriMo.

Right here. And no, I've not done the word count.

In this particular setting, the United States is in a perfect situation to experience the generic panic over demographic decline that has become the trend of late: no baby boom, no significant foreign immigration, deteriorating living standards. The rest of the world remains more-or-less demographically vibrant, or at least untroubled by fears of general population replacement. (The Bulgarian gastarbeiter of Germany and the growing Angolan community of metropolitan Brazil don't exactly pose serious threats. The East Africans of Egypt, now, threaten to Christianize and Africanize that ancient Muslim land.)

Owing to a variety of internal factors, the United States lacks this sort of security. I said elsewhere that it can be thought of as entering a period of decline and chaos comparable to that of Argentina in the 1970s. Adfd to this more than a touch of Yugoslavia in the 1980s.

Comments, as always, are more than welcome.
