Current Toronto mayor Rob Ford first came to prominence through--among other things--his constant engagement with and responsiveness to his constituents in west-end Etobicoke, personally intervening with the city government on issues like cracked sidewalks and graffiti. This personalized approach to city governance, along with his other, more negative, traits--a blustering personality unsuited to compromise, a habit of saying and doing really stupid things--is not doing him any service as mayor.
