Said and Orientalism and Me
Oct. 5th, 2003 06:44 pmQuite a few people have made comments in the blogosphere regarding the death of Edward Said and orientalism (the book and the theory). I myself wasn't untouched, having had a debate here myself, and having respect for the man.
Today, I met with a fellow graduate student--Palestinian herself--to talk about how we'll manage an upcoming presentation (on the 13th of November). Beginning with Wallerstein's world-systems theory, continuing past the kresy and romance fiction, to a summation of his career and the applicability of the theory to literary criticism ... It should be fun.
UPDATE 1: The Economist has a good obituary for Edward Said. See also the Edward Said Archive.
