1) So, you're gay and in Kinston. How's that working out for you?

As well as anything, I guess. I've certainly not encountered any major existential problems here, or even anything minor. Graduate school and questions of my future sustenance have caused all of my angst, here. Sexual orientation doesn't come into play, certainly not when there's so much eye candy. (Certainly not only male. Perhaps I'm confused?)

2) Okay, I actively dislike Traveller, despite never having even caused a bit of spinal damage to a book. Trust me, it's all the fault of a Demo Team leader. What am I missing?

Keep in mind that I've never actually played RPGs, though I'd like to. (Perhaps when I get to Toronto?)

What I find attractive about the Traveller setting--and others of comparable detail--2300 AD comes to mind--is the way that detail and vagueness are artfully combined. Traveller has a grand and detailed future history behind it, culminating in a fairly complex present with more than adequate detail in many areas (Spinward Marches, Solomani Rim, et cetera). At the same time, the structure of the Imperium (not to mention non-Imperial space) is porous enough to allow for plenty of niches (for characters, cultures, worlds) which can be explored and expanded upon. The presence of an extensive web-based fan community creating still more detail is also another nice aspect.

3) We're both member of Clan McDonald (me by marriage). How should we celebrate this?

Clan McDonald was notoriously agglutinative, absorbing fragments of clans and septs from across Scotland. I can think of no better way to celebrate this than to share a couple of drinks.

4) What three things should I not miss the next time I visit PEI?

The three classical major attractions, of course, are Green Gables, Province House, and the Confederation Centre of the Arts. If you've seen these (or have no interest in them), I'd recommend Orwell Corner, the region of Dalvay-by-the-Sea in the National Park, and Victoria by the Sea.

5) What, exactly, was at Stompin' Tom's birthplace? A shrine of some kind?

Stompin' Tom was raised from the age of seven outside of the community of Tignish, in westernmost Prince Edward Island. He didn't have fun as a child, not by any means. When I went there in 1997 as part of my training for Tourism PEI, his old house was there, reburbished as a museum. It was closed, though. so I can't tell you what's inside.
