I caught Robots this evening with the boyfriend. The voice acting was good, yes. The visuals were spectacular, though, with a 1950s-style robotic future in chrome and enamel portrayed in wonderful detail. The entire movie was a wonderful sensory experience.

And yet, the plotting. Thinking about the narrative as I waited for the streetcar, I realized that its flaws was that it placed Rodney Copperbottom in the position of a hero from a Horatio Alger story. The serial numbers were poorly filed off, if they were ever removed at all. I left the theatre happily enough, but I still have the sinking fear that I watched a movie that was the equivalent of a Care Bears television special from the 1980s. I hope I'm wrong, but I can't be certain.
