TORONTO (Reuters) - Toronto transit workers will strike on Monday, bringing subway and bus traffic to a halt in Canada's biggest city, after a Friday deadline for a contract agreement passed without resolution, the Amalgamated Transit Union said.

The Toronto Transit Commission carries about 1.4 million passengers a day and is the country's busiest transit system.

The last strike by Toronto's transit workers was in 1999 and lasted for two days.

This is wonderful news. Now I'll have to walk for two hours to get to and from work, that or spent the money that I don't have on taxis, or try to arrange a carpool, or something.

I'm not happy with this. I've not been happy with this possibility for a while. I'm not particularly fond of public-service bureaucracies, corporate and union both, of who decide to settle their frustrations by turning on uninvolved but dependent third parties like myself.

I'm a loyal and regular user of the Toronto Transit Commission's various services. I have been such a user ever since I've moved to Toronto. And this is how I'm thanked? If I wanted to get in better shape, I would have joined a gym.

Thanks, guys. I'll be sure to remember this.
