I'd like to thank
charlemagne77 for calling my attention to this New York Times article by Bruce Bawer, with a discussion over at Foreign Dispatches. Briefly, Bawer argues that (western) Europeans are significantly poorer than Americans, with the gradient running not south-to-north from post-fascist Mediterranean Europe to wealthy social-democratic Scandinavia but the opposite way thanks to government overregulation in Norden.
I've no idea whether this is true or not. I just thought that I'd share.
