[livejournal.com profile] pauldrye obligingly linked to this Astrobiology Magazine interview with Todd Henry on the suitability of red dwarf stars for Earth-type life on habitable planets. The consensus appears to be that, after decades of being neglected, the red dwarves should be put back on the list. They have small habitable zones, true, but there are so many red dwarf stars that there are bound to be some with habitable worlds. Even tidelocked worlds appear able to support Earth-like conditions.
