[LINK] Tojo in the 21st Century
Nov. 11th, 2005 01:15 pmOver at Asia Times, David McNeill interviews ("Family ties: The Tojo legacy") Yuko Tojo, granddaughter of General Hideki Tojo, the right-wing nationalist who led Japan into the Pacific War and was executed for war crimes in 1948. She's the standard-bearer for Japanese revisionism, condemning outside criticism of Japan's militaristic and colonial policies in the first half of the 20th century, criticizing the liberalism and laxity of contemporary Japanese life, warning of contemporary threats to Japan and hoping for a revival of Japanese strength. If Japan ever does, by whatever misfortune, blunder into another major war, it will be because of people like her. Fortunately the Japanese people seem to be rather more sensible than her, but unfortunately she's still a public figure.
