I'm surprised at how much fun I'd had last night at the aforementioned Warner Music's launch party, described here at Madonna Tribe. The music was good enough to convince me to buy the album, the free Blackfly vodka coolers were decent, and the men, well, nice on the eyes. Fun was had.

Gay bars are useful for many things. One of their more unexpected uses, I have to say, is in their provision of spaces where I can apply my knowledge of social theory and ethnography. It's interesting to see the patrons sort themselves out into the different groups, based on age and subculture and preexisting friendship. More, it's entertaining to watch people try to open up entirely new patterns of social interaction, in groups or solo. There are other areas where you can examine human identities in flux, true, even other areas where you can try to test yourself in the midst of these identities. There's very few in Canada where you can do all those things and drink legally.
