Wikipedia's superlative entry on the Norman language, the regional language of Normandy and one of the langues d'oïl, provides perfect proof that an open-source encyclopedia can be quite useful, in its attention to the fine details of interaction between cotninental Normandy and the Channel Islands, in its identification of the leading writers of the Norman language, and in its multple links to online and offline sources. Wikipedia has issues, but it can easily transcend these.
