An exchange made while a few of us were watching In The Beginning, the Babylon 5 TV movie covering the Earth-Minbari War.

[livejournal.com profile] acrabtree: "So, Sheridan really is like Captain Kirk, but with less sex and more violence."

[livejournal.com profile] rfmcdpei: "That's hot."

Eh. It sounded good at the time.

  • Londo's life, as Centauri emperor in 2278, is hell. He deserves this living purgatory entire.

  • Earthforce has very interesting ideas about the sort of officer who should be in a position to initiate first contact with an alien race of unknown power.

  • Coplenn got Delenn at just the right moment for his plans: "Oh, look, here's Delenn weeping as she's cradling the body of her long-time mentor in her arms! Let's ask her what she thinks should be done to the people who killed him."

  • The Narn Regime had an insane foreign policy in the 2240s. "Let's frame the Centauri and hope the Minbari go after them next, or else let's have them come after us and we don't care." It's unsurprising that, finally, the Centauri got fed up.

  • The Minbaris' lead over the Earthers was rather embarrassingly large. One wonders what Earth's neighbours thought about the near-destruction of Earth's entire military force, especially in the aftermath of the successful Dilgar War.

  • Ivanova's life is nothing but pain for her, what with everyone she loves dying, or becoming unworthy of her love, or both.

  • There are very good reasons indeed for Earth's politics to be so terminally confused after the world's near-obliteration.
