Listening to Mylène Farmer's 1994 remix album Dance Remixes '94, I've come to the conclusion that I like the Mother Life Remix version of her 1985 song "Plus Grandir" better than I do the original. That song was fairly tightly controlled synthpop, while the live version's more spontaneous as befits a song about a melancholic teenager's reluctance to grow up ("Plus grandir, j'veux plus grandir/Plus grandir pour pas mourir, pas souffrir"). The addition of guitar works nicely, but the best addition is that of a backup singer who fills the role of Farmer's mother, struggling with her angry daughter ("Et je ne suis pas ta fille/et je ne suis pas ta fille,/et je ne suis pas ta fille/ et tu n'es pas ma mère!")
