[BRIEF NOTE] Shirin Ebadi's Non-Appearance

2003 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Shirin Ebadi was going to give a reading tomorrow in Toronto, perhaps the first time she was here since she received an honorary degree from the University of Toronto in 2004, as part of Pages Bookstore's ongoing reading series.

Sadly, her appearance has been cancelled: "Dr Ebadi has been called back to her home in Iran due to a family emergency." I wonder if I was so wrong as to imagine other sorts of emergencies, and if so, why I did so.
