  • In The Hindu, T.S. Subramanian reports that artifacts bearing the
Indus script of the extinct Harappan civilization have been found in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. This is a critical find, not only because this artifact is the southernmost artifact of the Harappan civilization found, but because the Dravidian languages spoken in Tamil Nadu and surrounding states are believed to be related to the language of the Harappans.

  • At IWPR, Albena Shkodrova examines ("Greeks and Bulgarians Turning Over New Leaf") relations between Greeks and Bulgarians. The two Balkan nations were divided by disputes over the region of Macedonia in the first half of the 20th century and then by the Cold War in the second half. After the Cold War, the opportunities for Greek-Bulgarian interactions have shot up hugely, though this has been complicated by the poverty of Bulgaria and Bulgarians relative to their southern neighbours.

  • The Globe and Mail includes an interview, by James Christie, of Canadian Olympic gold-medallist and out athlete Mark Tewksbury. It seems that it's becoming easier to be an out athlete in Canada, though Tewksbury comes off as being a bit bemused that he's become the representative of this hidden population.
