I've come to the conclusion that I think much better--more clearly, more quickly, more incisively--when I'm in the presence of other people.
For example, last night at the Harp & Thistle I was talking to Steve Forbes, who was the MC
for trivia night. Before the trivia, I wandered over to chat to him and explained my Honours project to him. It was good explaining it to him--I was able to explain and explore my thought processes, the theories I used. And I got an insight.
Unfortunately, I thought I forget the insight. I believe that the insight was that the characters in the novels, coming from regional backgrounds, were forced to place the centers of their universes outside their selves and their communities, as much as they tried to bring it back in. I'm still not sure that's it, though it seems like a
cool insight. I'm fairly sure it was and it's good enough, but still--I should be more reliable, no? or yes?
