The Wikipedia article on The Associates informs me that this Scottish band's first single was an unauthorized cover of David Bowie's "Boys Keep Swinging". It might well be the same version that I managed to acquire over the weekend. Certainly it's definitely good enough to get a new band a recording contract, what with the glorious melancholy of this quiet guitar-and-drums cover and Billy MacKenzie's passionately throaty vocals. "Boys keep swinging/Boys always work it out" never sounded so wistful.
