[URBAN NOTE] Walking on (Solid) Glass
Apr. 10th, 2008 05:36 pmThe CN Tower is an iconic monument in Toronto, and one of my favourite structural elements of the CN Tower is its Glass Floor. Twenty-four square metres in size and 342 metres above the ground, the floor is a very strong window that can actually "withstand the weight of 14 large hippos." Both times I've been to the CN Tower I've gloried in jumping on it. (What else is it for?)
blogTo's Adam Schwabe has a video blog post about the CN Tower's newest addition, glass-floored elevators. I have to confess myself disappointed by what I've seen of these elevators so far, on blogs and on television. The elevators only have little rectangles of glass in their floors, token things really. Perhaps I'll have to wait for the next upgrade to the CN Tower's elevators.
