In his excellent post,
optimussven examines the use of language in Israel-Palestine, not only as a marker of the identities and statuses of different groups within that region, but as a source of different Latin-script transliterations that happen to be associated with different parties in the above conflict. It's quite worthwhile reading, especially because of its implications for language conflict situations elsewhere in the world (Montreal or Montréal, perhaps?).
