Very few houses on Prince Edward Island are made out of stone or brick, for reasons stemming directly from the relative paucity of stone or brick materials, with the fissile red sandstone suitable only for the facings of buildings. People who wanted to build buildings had to use wood, and so, growing up, it seemed only normal to me that old neighbourhoods like the one pictured above were built out of wood. Imagine my surprise when I got to the mainland.
