It's funny how song like the Pet Shop Boys' "Being Boring", say, or Annie Lennox's "Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye", are resonating with me. A variety of unreleated events, involving the departure--temporary or permanent--of different friends in different circles of friends established at different times and places in my life, is making me remember the old friends I've lost contact with, even in our Google-and-Facebook era.
One friend I mine that I miss sorely is Chris L., from my Queen's University day. We hit it off well from the start, getting smashed on any number of liquors on our first day there, and thereafter we meshed on the basis of--among other things--our shared sexual orientation and interests in the arts, drinking, one memorable trip into Kingston's hinterland. But then, I lost track of him completely. I really learned a lot from him, about how to be more self-confident and sure of myself. And yet. I can't find a trace of him via Google, he doesn't seem to be on Facebook or at least to be connected with any of our mutual Facebook friends, and, well, I miss him.
(In case you're reading thris, it's Randy from Jean Royce Hall. E-mail me.)
What friends of old do you miss? How have you gotten in contact with them again? Do you want to get in contact with them again?
