[NON BLOG] Some Television and Breakfast

Yesterday evening, I went to watch some Season 3 episodes of Buffy on DVD with schizmatic and a school friend of his: "Amends", "Gingerbread", "Helpless", "The Zeppo", "Bad Girls", "Consequences". It was a long time since I'd seen those episodes. Hell, it was a long time since I'd watched any television at all. It was nice to be reminded why Buffy was good television: not saying anything about Season 7, now, it was a show where actions had lasting consequences. Plus wonderful writing: "Occasionally, I'm callous and strange."

Breakfast this morning at the Coach House: cheese omelette, toast with jam, orange juice, coffee. It was good, and I think lesslyn for recommending it to me back in August. I have to confess, though, that I went to it for the second time today because of a brief paragraph-length review written by Bert Archer (yes, that Bert Archer) in the Eye last month.

Go into Coach House on any morning, but especially Saturday and Sunday mornings, and you'll see what at first looks like a lovely series of couples, mostly male, eating their yummy greasy fills. The diner food is standard and just fine, but you come here for the eavesdropping. Sit. Listen. Almost none of these people knew each other before about 1 that same morning. Hearing them try to get the other person to say their name and how good some others are, or aren't, at filling the silences is well worth the $5 your ham and eggs are going to cost you.

And yes, Archer's right. Oddly, both times I've been there I've had Garbage's "Cup of Coffee" as an earworm.

[BRIEF NOTE] CFTAG Notes

Today, myself, schizmatic, pauldrye and robertprior met for an excellent four hours of discussion over coffee and assorted other beverages and foodstuffs at the Yonge-Wellesley Starbucks. A wide variety of subjects were discussed, including the differences and similarities between the entities of Liam, Angelus, and Angel, the need for fantasy and science-fiction, if it is to be good, to exist against a background that's at least semi-coherent, and the visscitudes of North Korea, Canadian universities, and American electoral politics. I also got a copy of Paul's Brave New Worlds setting, which looks quite good indeed.
