I've a post up at Demography Matters pointing to the very surprising fact that sex ratios at birth in the countries of the South Caucasus--Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan--are among the most male-biased in the world, standing out spectacularly in the contexts of both the former Soviet Union and the greater Middle East. Why, I ask? No one seems to know why the effect is so intense there.
