What sort of things--pictures, videos, articles, quizzes--do you like sharing with other people on the Internet? The latest thing to have made the circle of my Facebook friends is the below adorable one-minute video of a dreaming kitten being hugged by its mother.

The video went massively viral. I've at least four friends on Facebook who shared it.

The video shows the kitten curled up and dreaming while asleep next to its mother.

As the kitten begins to twitch its tiny paws, the mother scoops it up in a big hug.

The video has been shared thousands of times on social-media websites such as Twitter and Facebook, becoming the latest YouTube sensation.

The video, titled "Cat mom hugs baby kitten," has been viewed more than 840,000 times, as of Friday afternoon.

People erupted with a chorus of "aww" after the video was shown on CP24.

Twitter user @bonsell8 wrote: "Adorable mom cat hugging its kitten video just made my day!"

Another user, @LoMel, wrote: "I was worried that cat hugging kitten video wouldn't live up to my expectations, but it was everything I hoped for and more."

The word "meme", as used on the Internet, refers not to the self-reproducing ideas proposed by Richard Dawkins, but rather by online items of some kind that are ripe for sharing. Early last decade (gosh I'm old) quizzes were commonly shared; I even had a [MEME] tag. Pictures, too. Later, as technology advanced and bandwidth grew, videos came to be shared.

What do you like sharing? When did it start? Do you share different things on different networks, things aimed for different audiences or circles?

Discuss.
