Monday afternoon saw me in the northern part of Central Park, but Monday evening--more temperate by far--saw me in the south of Central Park, as New Yorker Alexander kindly guided me past many of the sights of that part of the park. (My considerable thanks to him.)

Central Park's horse-drawn carriage rides are eye-catching.

The Delacorte Music Clock which crowns the entrance to the Children's Zoo is visible in greater detail here and here. Alas, I came too late to hear the music play.

The geology of Manhattan surfaces.

The Conservatory Water gives shelter to amateur modelists of ships, was told, as well as waterfowl. (My long-distance shot of a pair of ducks perched on a point in the pond didn't turn out, alas.)

There was something wonderfully appropriate about an excited child running around the 1956 statue of Hans Christian Andersen.

The statue of Alice in Wonderland was well-peopled.

New York's Cleopatra's Needle stands out on the centre-east edge of Central Park, hieroglyphs eroded by a century's pollution.

The Victorian folly that is Belvedere Castle looks impressive against the evening sky of Manhattan (the Upper West Side?).
