1. Far from being a natural red, the soil here is the freakish black that--on the Island--prevails only in gardens and nurseries. Or it's grey.

2. The rocks are interesting. For one thing, there's a lot more of them; it wasn't unusual to look out from the train window and see a farmer's fields, used for grazing, with a large clutch of rocks in the middle. For another, they're not friable sandstone but rather durable granite.

3. Kingston is richer than Charlottetown. Much richer. And no, it's not because of any direct exploitation of the Island proletariat by the Kingston elite, but rather because there can't be as much on the Island as in Kingston, for historic, geographic, and other regions.
