terday, I'd read an article in the Queen's Journal about the East Coast Canadians Club at Queen's, and so I went for an hour to the meeting (held in the Queen's Pub before heading over to a budgeting seminar. There was a curious density of Islanders there--the first two people I talked to were Charlottetowners, and soon we'd gotten a clutch of a half-dozen Islanders together by the time I had to leave. There's a plan to get together Saturday night at one fellow Islander's place, Noel's; curiously enough, I'd met him last September, as one of teridian's game-players up in the PoliSci lounge. that was fun.

I've three presentations which will be coming due over the next month:
  • An Edith Wharton project that will examine the role of women, and their potential for freedom, in the context of a New York City upper class with fluctuating rules and membership.

  • The aforementioned project on Orientalism and Edward Said for my literary theory class.

  • Finally, something on the Petrarchan self for my medieval subjectivities class. (Yes, I'll let you know what it is when I learn.)

Today, I looted the library for books relating to Wharton, New York City, gender and kinship in anthropology, and the social history of late 19th century America, though I also found an interesting essay on Ashkenazic/Sephardic splits in Israel in Displacement, Diaspora, and Geographies of Identity. That was a fun binge.

This evening, the question of whether or nto I'll continue my academic studies took on an interesting new cast, as I presented myself as a TA for my class. (I'll be checking the papers of everyone from Maddock to Wills for the first and final essays, then from Auffink to MacNiven for the second essay.) It went well: I introduced myself, wrote down my E-mail, mentioned my office hours. I wonder how I must appear to them.

What's coming up? Hopefully, that Saturday outing, an upcoming English graduate student's dinner Sunday (for those orphans unable to trek home), possibly a bike ride with a colleague. Some writing projects, perhaps; perhaps an effort to retool a chapter of my Honours essay for presentation. Possibly even dating, who knows?
