Well, I'm back on the Island. The train trip went quite well. The Kingston-Montréal leg proceeded scenically enough through the low limestone hills and well-tended if winter-grayed farmland of eastern Ontario, allowing me to read the fascinating books Rare Earth and The Borderlands of Science en route. Just before the train arrived at the Dorval station, I met up with a friend from dorm who (through his relationship with a CN worker) had gotten a sweet arrangement. On arrival at the station, we prowled through the connected shopping mall at Place Ville Marie (unfortunately closing down by the time the train got in before 5) before getting some things to snack on. (Me, it was a large cookie with a vegetables/dip package, a cup of coffee, and rather too many imported ginseng-laced super-caffeinated energy drinks.) Surprisingly enough, the Montréal-Moncton leg went quite nicely, without screaming children at 4 o'clock; I was able to read Dr. No and Goldfinger, get some writing in (Halbinsel for the 2300AD Joi Sourcebook project), and watch the movies Charlie's Angels 2 and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (the latter one twice).

The train arrived nicely in Moncton, without loss of limbs, baggage, or life on my part. The necessary reunion with the family also went rather nicely, aided by the stubborn refusal of local weather systems to condense into a ferocious snowstorm as predicted. Shopping in Moncton proceeded interestingly enough, with purchasing including an interesting how-to book on metrosexuality and the Evanescence CD, along with supper at a local Chinese buffet restaurant and assorted catching-up. We got back home to the Island at 7 o'clock, and I've been relaxing (reading books left here, drinking untainted tap water, enjoying a bathtub that can be fully used without fear of contracting skin infections, et cetera) ever since.

Now, the upcoming week.
