The visit to Evergreen Farm (north of Kingston, off of route #10) with C. went quite nicely. First, a farmhand showed us part of their alpaca herd. The animals look quite odd, with their low-slung bodies and high necks. I tried to pet them, but they were quite timid. (Apparently in contrast to their larger cousin the llama, which is known for its ferocity and its sharp teeth, and often kept as a guard animal.) Then, one of the operators of the farm explained more about the origins of their herd (there are 1500 farms raising alpacas across Ontario, surprisingly) and the Alpaca fibre is very high density, and astonishingly soft and warm. If their socks didn't cost 32.95, I'd have bought a pair. The alpaca is a fascinating animal, to say nothing of being cute. I recommend that everyone in the Kingston area should visit it.

Following this, I went downtown to Princess Street where I went to Indigo, buying the soundtrack of Lost in Translation and Gail Bowen's mystery The Glass Coffin. I then had lunch at the Copper Penny (fries and a chicken BLT), and picked up a nice used copy of this biography of Annie Lennox before I went to the Royal Bank to discuss long-term financial planning.

(And yes, if you want you can read whatever irony you'd like into that segue.)

That went interestingly. Getting a job offer by the time I move, though, will be critical to financial planning. Well, that or inherit money from a vastly wealthy recently deceased relative. I feel at least moderately secure, though, which is nice.

Now, tonight. Reading, writing, laundry, LJer get-together.
