[NON-BLOG] Social Things
Mar. 18th, 2004 04:31 pmThis week's English graduate student's coffee hour ended a bit over an hour ago. (Thursdays, 1:30 to 3:30, fourth-floor common room in Watson Hall, like clockwork. Queen's students reading this, I come in a half-hour before it begins to set up, so if you want to say hi, feel free.)
One thing that I've noticed is that whenever I'm active socially, I tend to prefer relatively formal occasions, like the aforementioned coffee hour. Academic colloquia, group meetings, and formal parties also rank highly. Social fora with a fair degree of internal structure, marked by the presence of rules that one can learn formally, are simply more comfortable for me simply because there are formal rules that I can learn beforehand. I've been moving away from this as I become steadily more confident in my capacity to act autonomously and competency as a social individual, but it's still a tendency that I have to take note of.
I'll be going to see The Passion tonight, for my medieval devotional literature class. I'll be sure to blog my reactions, of course.
And shamelessly echoing Dragan Antulov, I likewise hope that the estimates of 2004FH's trajectory are accurate. I too would like my blog to remain relevant.
