I saw this photo on the front window of a photo shop in the Annex. Instagram-worthy, I thought.

Canadian Mounties vs. Atomic Invaders #toronto #canada #movies #coldwar #bmovies

On closer examination, it turned out to be advertising a reasonably prominent serial. Canadian Mounties vs. Atomic Invaders was a 1953 Republic serial pitting a cast of heroes in the very early Cold War and Red Scare against "atomic invaders". There is, Facebook's David let me know, a trailer for the film on Youtube.

The uploader goes into more detail about the background to this film release.

Theatrical trailer for the 1952 Republic serial, CANADIAN MOUNTIES VS. ATOMIC INVADERS, starring William Henry, Susan Morrow, Arthus Space and Dan Van Sickel. Republic serials were, by 1953, heavily reeling from the impact of television. The smaller, independent theatres, Republic's bread and butter showplaces, were closing at an epidemic rate and iRepublic's profit centers, inexpensive cliffhangers and B-westerns, were imperiled by rising production costs. At best, the chaptersplays from the studio's final two years of serial production, 1953 and 1954, were built heavily around more spectacular footage from the studio's earlier films and serials.

None of this film, as it turns out, was filmed in Canada.

Take it for what you will.
