Between photos of dead children and reports of Germans welcoming refugees by the trainload, the Syrian refugee crisis has been getting a lot of press this week.

What do you think the end results of all this will be? It seems inevitable at this point that, given the unpleasantness of the Assad regime and the Islamic State and the devastations associated with civil war, Syria is going to become a place that lots of people are from. As a result, any number of countries around the world will be set to acquire large and growing Syrian populations.

What predictions do you make? Do you think Syria will survive? Do you think that refugees might eventually return, or that they might be displaced? Do you think the past week might lead to a positive transformation of the world's attitude towards Syrian refugees, even towards refugees in general? Or will we just have more of the same.

Discuss.
