[BRIEF NOTE] A Thought on 21st Century Morality

I'd like to highlight a comment made by serod in regards to my recent post on warbloggers who think Islamophobia should be legalized.

I am increasingly convinced that there are only three responses to the world by those who possess some power of self-reflection:

1. Become a bitter, twisted satirist or misanthrope a la Dean Swift;

2. Disappear into obscure intellectual abstractions and just ignore the outer world;

3. Try to impose some sort of moral order on the chaos around you, even if it stops at your front door, and declare a truce, if not peace, with the people and things outside it.

Option one leads to ulcers; option two leads to moral renunciation; option three is supremely difficult but ultimately the only sane choice, in my opinion.
