I've got a brief summary post up describing the reaction in France to the new school year, as the ban on the hijab has been enforced.

It turns out that the main surprise connected with this controversy--I wrote about it here--is that so few French Muslim schoolgirls wore the hijab, and that many who did just did so in order to spite authority for a day or two.
