I'll just take a moment to identify the four blogs I've added most recently to my blogroll and one special mention, along with explanations as to why.

  • Jason Kuznicki's Positive Liberty is a well-written and entertaining blog owned by a person who is the academic that I once hoped to be: motivated and confident, intimidatingly polymathic in a good way.

  • Aufbau Ost is [livejournal.com profile] eternityfan's academic blog, containing her explorations of the representation of East Germany and East Germans in reunified Germany. As readers of this blog might have noticed, East Germany fascinates me, as East Germany within the Federal Republic of Germany is perhaps the clearest contemporary demonstration of the problems of nation-building in a First World society. Aufbau Ost promises to be provide its readers with a fascinating tak on this process from both etic and emic perspectives.

  • John Barrass' SpainMedia.com is a vast site that provides an all-encompassing survey of Spanish and Catalonian media for Anglophones, with source material translated from Castilian and Catalan. For someone like myself, limited by mere Canadian-style bilingualism but interested in the latest addition to the top ranks of the European Union's internal geopolitical echelon as well as in the culture and prospects of the most successful non-sovereign nation in Europe, this site is essential.

  • Aaron Wherry, owner of pop (all love), is a columnist for the National Post. I really like his columns, which on some days are the only non-news items in the Post that I can stand (to say nothing of some of the news items). So, adding his blog makes good sense.

  • Halfway Down the Danube deserves special mention if only because Carlos Yu, famed denizen of soc.history.what-if is posting there regularly on such matters as interesting economic theory and interesting medieval Latin poetry. He's an interesting fellow indeed, and it's a pleasure to track him. (Oh, and there's pieblogging.)
