As I noted Saturday, I was leaving for Hamilton, where I intended to see [livejournal.com profile] creases and C. from the Island briefly as they prepped for their party, before I headed up the Niagara Escarpment where I intended to meet up with K., a friend from grad school, and the party that he and his new wife would be hosting.

I brought my Rough Guide to Canada along with me. I have to confess, Hamiltonians, that it included only two pages of attractions including the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington and said that there wasn't much in town, and that the only things that I knew about Hamilton include Sheila Copps and pollution-induced temperature inversions which leave the city sweltering in summer. Leaving the GO Station at a quarter past five, though, I was surprised by how nice the downtown looked. [livejournal.com profile] creases' and C.'s neighbourhood was particularly striking, though they told me it was an exception. No time for polemics, I fear, but definitely plenty of time to chat, and also to admire the chalked occult symbols and slogans on the walls. I only hope that after I left, the house with its screaming inhabitants wasn't sucked into a hellish alternate dimension by the force of those invocations.

After a brief misadventure trying to find K.'s apartment, I got inside. I think that my costume was fairly credible, though I couldn't see anything with my sunglasses and had to take them off. I enjoyed myself quite heartily, meeting friends from Queen's and new people entirely, to a background of classic horror films. It's just a damned pity that my neck began hurting badly; that pain, the two Advils, and the two shots of tequila made me crash barely past midnight.

Leaving Hamilton at noon, I headed directly for the Yonge-Wellesley Starbucks for the Counterfactual Threats Assessment Group, [livejournal.com profile] pauldrye and [livejournal.com profile] schizmatic being in attendance. (Incidentally, James B.'s account of the last meeting is a must-read.) A variety of topics were discussed, the most important of which was of course [livejournal.com profile] pauldrye's recovery from his recent medical mishap. It was very good to see him indeed.

Following that was a very enjoyable evening spent in the company of a fine cast of people including [livejournal.com profile] bitterlawngnome, [livejournal.com profile] djjo, [livejournal.com profile] danthered, [livejournal.com profile] koobear and [livejournal.com profile] vaneramos. Much fun was had, including supper, reiki, and introductory yoga.
