[BRIEF NOTE] Dinner and Locutus
Nov. 22nd, 2004 12:19 pmSupper last night with
bitterlawngnome,
djjo,
dannythered,
koobear and D. was excellent as always, as much for the company as for the food (nice sweet potato and maple soup, incidentally,
koobear, despite my lateness courtesy of a TTC jammed by people fleeing downtown Toronto after the Santa Claus Parade.
After supper, we watched "The Best of Both Worlds", the ST:TNG episode that introduced the Borg in their full intimidating technological horror to the Federation. Before Voyager did what it did with the Borg (not entirely bad things, mind, not nearly entirely), they did constitute rather intimidating enemies. Proof of that is to be found in the way that the Borg have permeated popular culture: "Resistance is futile," and all that.
One question that fascinates me, particularly in light of the previous discussion at CFTAG about the boundaries between Liam, Angelus, and Angel, is the question of Locutus. What was Locutus? What was its relationship to Picard? What were their relationships with the Collective? Perhaps most importantly: What's Picard's relationship to the devastation of Starfleet at Wolf 359?
Discuss.
