I do think it's incumbent upon me to say that anyone who uses Frienditto or its kindred services to archive my posts without my permission--in particular, my friends-only posts--will be unfriended. Too, I feel somewhat embarrassed that I'm now one of those people who's capable of publically threatening to undertake legal action against other Internet users, but concern over the massive copyright and privacy infringements that Frienditto enables would seem sufficient justification.

For those of you unfamiliar with Frienditto's succès de scandale,[livejournal.com profile] livredor's post enunciates all of the reasons for people to be hostile to the service. I disagree with [livejournal.com profile] sculpin's argument that the people behind Frienditto might be trying to destabilize Livejournal as a community, if only because they derive a lot of their fun from Livejournal, with LJ Drama, for instance. I do agree with [livejournal.com profile] jrittenhouse's observation that "[t]he frienditto people were doing this because they (also active in other sites that are up to the same schtick) were primarily interested in one thing: internet pranking. They love watching people squirm and will happily add to the mess. They're trollish scum."

I find it fitting, and unsurprising, and somewhat amusing, that Frienditto's founders are being made the bitches of the hordes of angry teenagers and motivated adults who have overloaded the site, begun hacking the websites and livejournals of the service's creators ([livejournal.com profile] jameth), and have begun to make fairly plausible legal threats. It's always interesting to watch Internet-based communities police themselves.

UPDATE (2:36 AM) : [livejournal.com profile] quixotickitten goes into more detail about the whole Frienditto drama. Some people need to get out more.
