james_nicoll notes that sales for romance novels outstrip sales for science-fiction novels. "The Market is Never Wrong," his post is titled.This fits with my casual experience from work, where it's common to receive single copies of a particular science-fiction novel and at least three different copies of any given romance novel. Not that many of the science-fiction novels reward the desperate reader. Extruded David Weber material is terribly common.
