While quaffing a pint in the open air and under the coolling sky at Caffè Volo on Yonge and Dundonald, my eye was caught by Antonia Zerbisias' latest column in the Sunday Star, a point by comparison of the relative merits of (conservative, closeted) Matt Drudge and (liberal, bisexual ex-husband) Arianna Huffington made in mind with Arianna's upcoming blog debut.

All said, it was a rather entertainingly superficial comparison (Drudge isn't a typical Red Stater if one at all, Huffington isn't a typical Blue Stater if one at all, et cetera), and I would have gone away from Caffè Volo mildly amused if not for the fact that, on the front page of the Star's Ideas section, Olivia Ward's condemnation of a culture of voyeurism that discourages authentic engagement in politics for superficial and facile amusement, because, gosh, isn't celebrity utterly unmoored from reality fun?

We need editors. More to the point, the Sunday Star (and the Saturday Star, and the regular old Toronto Star) need editors who realize that certain articles, when juxtaposed in a certain issue, shall reveal themselves to deserve publication in separate issues, if indeed one or more article deserves to be published at all.
