[NON BLOG] City Grill
May. 9th, 2005 11:34 pmAs part of my ongoing dinners with my mother and sister while they're here, I met up with them in the Eaton Centre. We ended up going to the City Grill. It was the first time that I'd went; I would have gone with a friend two years ago, but hours didn't work.
One of my more interesting courses at Queen's University explored Pierre Bourdieu's concept of cultural capital as it was manifest in the England of the 16th and early 16th centuries, particularly in the form of schooling. For some reason, sitting among the happy Upper Canadians, I wished that I, too, had been lucky enough to enjoy their cultural capital. A different habitus would have been swell, at least if it meant that I wasn't starting out so relatively late and clumsy in, well, so much.
