Via Otto's Random Thoughts, I found Rich Hindes's post at The Disillusioned Kid on the Chagossian Diaspora. More commonly known as the Ilois, these natives of the island of Diego Garcia Chagos Archipelago--formally a British territory--were displaced between 1967 and 1973 to make way for a top-secret American military base. Since then, the Ilois have been languishing in extreme poverty in their Mauritian exile, hoping that one day they will be able to return to their homeland.
