Thinking about my friends from PEI--[livejournal.com profile] choreo_m, [livejournal.com profile] creases, [livejournal.com profile] erins_pubs, [livejournal.com profile] london_calling, [livejournal.com profile] teridian, others--I've realized just recently that we all form a highly unrepresentative sampling of the general population of PEI. In a province where 85% of the population is native to the Island, many of us have moved from elsewhere or have at least one non-Islander or non-Canadian parent; in a province that's largely rural, we all come from Charlottetown; in a province with levels of income and education somewhat below the Canadian average, we all come from middle-class or better home and have at least one university-level degree. How much of our experience is generalizable to all Prince Edward Island? Not all that much, I reckon.

UPDATE (5:55 PM) : [livejournal.com profile] erins_pub isn't from Charlottetown, but from Stanhope. Even so, we are all from central PEI. I think my overall point still stands.
